Prairie Winds Chorus
The Prairie Winds Chapter of Sweet Adelines International in Lubbock, Texas, will present The Marvelous Toy, A Life Time of Fun on October 23, at 7 p.m. in the Civic Center Theater. Based on the song The Marvelous Toy, written by Tom Paxton and recorded by well-known folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, the show will follow the adventures of a boy and a very special Toy, as together they discover the magic of life itself with those they love.
In addition to the Prairie Winds Chorus, the show will feature quartets Crystal Collection, Rendition and Windsong, as well as a folk group, Candyland Express, performing the title song and other Peter, Paul and Mary hits.
The performance, complete with elaborate costumes, staging and choreography, will include such songs as You Never Had a Friend Like Me from Aladdin, Desperado, I'm Alone Because I Love You, If You're Gonna Play In Texas, You Gotta Have A Fiddle In the Band, Mack the Knife, Love Potion Number Nine, Walkin' After Midnight, It's a Sin to Tell a Lie, I Love to Laugh from Mary Poppins, and other favorites.
The Prairie Winds Chorus, chartered in 1969, is part of Sweet Adelines International, the world's largest singing organization for women. The 80-voice chorus performs in and around the Lubbock area, competes annually in their five-state regional competition, and performed in the 1997 Austrian Alps Performing Arts Festival in Innsbruck and Kitzbuhel, Austria.
